FAQs
What’s the best age to photograph my baby?
Newborn photo sessions are best within the first 2 weeks of birth (10 days is ideal). During this time, your newborn will likely sleep a lot which will allow us to move her around without waking easily. The next good time for baby photos is around 3-4 months when babies have good head control – babies get giggly at this age which is great for photos – and who can resist tummy time shots?! When my son was 4 months old my camera was literally strapped to my body! Then again when babies are between 6-8 months – there’s a window of opportunity at this age that is ideal for photos – right when baby is able to sit-up unassisted (it’s ok to be a little wobbly) but not yet crawling. Oh, we get adorable shots at this age! Then of course, around 12 months when babies are on their feet! Additional milestones are at 18 months, 2 years old, and then yearly around the holidays for some awesome family photos.
Do you offer custom packages?
Yes! If you want a custom photography session package – for example – maternity and newborn photo sessions package, I can do that. Or if you want a baby steps package – newborn, 6 month and 12 month photo sessions package, that’s possible. Just shoot me an email and we can work it out.
When should I schedule a session?
In order to offer the highest quality, I only book a limited number of photo sessions per month. For this reason, sessions are booked 4-8 weeks in advance. During busy season (June – November) – book at least 8 weeks in advance. I allow a few open spots for last minute newborn portrait sessions only – so if you just had a baby, contact me asap to see if i have any availability.
How does the “studio set-up” work?
Although I prefer shooting 100% natural light because it is most flattering, I also bring my studio set-up to photo sessions that are at client homes, this includes backdrops and lighting equipment. It takes about 5 minutes to set-up and about 6×6′ of space (usually in the living room). I also need access to electrical outlets for my lights. This is a nice option if the natural light in your home is limited. If you just like the look of studio style shots, I can also replicate this using natural light. For newborn sessions, I only break out the studio lights if it’s super dark in your home – but I’m pretty much always able to find the natural light – even if it means I have to get into tight spaces
99% of the newborn images in my galleries are taken in natural light.
I really love those baskets & baby hats in your photos – do you bring those?
Yes! I have so many baskets, tins, hats & swaddling blankets – and I bring them with me to newborn and baby photo sessions.
Will mom and dad be in the photos, too?
Yes! Family members will be included (immediate family only). If you would like more family shots (including grandparents, for example), a family session (as opposed to a baby session) may work better.
Last but not least, expect sessions to be fun! I’m a big kid myself and love to laugh!
